Select the location
Choose a rigid mounting point with the clearest practical sky view. Avoid nearby obstructions, high-power transmitters, impact zones and supports that can flex relative to the vessel.
Align the heading reference
Align the defined sensor axis with the vessel centreline, or measure and configure the offset. Visual approximation is not sufficient when heading accuracy matters.
Connect and configure the network
- Disconnect power before wiring.
- Verify NMEA 2000 topology, termination and power capacity.
- Connect required interfaces without introducing ground loops.
- Select GeoX as the source on each relevant display.
- Set publication rates for the installation.
Commissioning checks
| Check | At the dock | Under way |
|---|---|---|
| Heading | Consistent with the vessel axis | Stable through manoeuvres |
| Position | Good GNSS quality and satellite count | Continuous track |
| Attitude | Roll and pitch signs are correct | Response follows vessel motion |
| Network | Source identified on each display | No source conflict or data loss |
| Logs | Recording configured as required | Data can be retrieved after the test |
Document the installation
Keep photographs, alignment, lever arms, output-rate settings and selected-source lists. Good documentation makes future maintenance and troubleshooting much faster.
